The problem for me is in your last phrase. I don't know what or who
ProtectedNetwork is. To me, the name already sounds like it's a scam ;)
I wouldn't want a party that I don't know or trust to manage my identity.
So to answer your other question of it's matter of effort to fill out a
form, or a matter of security/privacy: it's both.
