I'm hoping that Russ Albery will be able to say more on this (it's outside my primary sphere of knowledge), buy my understanding is
that UDP traffic in general and non-trivial networks are a continual thorn in the side for AFS also that performance can be sucky.

It sounds as though in Paul's case he has enough control, but anecdotal evidence and my own experiences some 20 years ago (yes my
prejudices really do last that long!) always make me shy when I meet the words "availability" and "UDP" in the same sentence...
