However, when an application uses Java 9 Modules, the method returns <tt>null</tt>.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0">You can refer to this sample to simulate the problem: <a href="https://github.com/jzheaux/spring-security-examples/tree/with-modules-no-boot/with-modules" title="smart-link" class="external-link" rel="nofollow noreferrer" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">https://github.com/jzheaux/spring-security-examples/tree/with-modules-no-boot/with-modules</a> .</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0">Run the <tt>WithModulesApplication</tt> main class and see that <tt>null</tt> is printed to the console. If the <tt>module-info.java</tt> file gets removed, it prints the version correctly.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0">There is also another way to workaround this problem, that is doing like so <tt>Version.class.getModule().getDescriptor().version().get()</tt>, but since <tt>getModule()</tt> is a JDK 9 feature, this code does not compile with Java 8.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0">In Spring Security there are several places where we look for the OpenSAML version in order to decide which implementation to use. Having this sorted out would help us make the way that the version gets resolved more reliable.</p> </td>
