For instance our OIDC authentication request decoder exploits the following static method:</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0"> <tt>com.nimbusds.openid.connect.sdk.AuthenticationRequest.parse(HTTPRequest)</tt></p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">These methods throws a ParseException if they're not happy with the contents of HTTPRequest, with the description included in the message (logged on our side). However, the exception class is always the same, and our decoders throws generic MessageDecodingException, which is catched by <tt>org.opensaml.profile.action.impl.DecodeMessage</tt> in the flow.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">If we parsed the HTTP requests by ourselves, we'd have better control on at least the following cases:</p>

<li>User-facing error messages for missing / unexpected request parameter contents (now the SWF event is always <em>UnableToDecode</em>)</li>
<li>How to deal with empty values for claims - should they in some cases be ignored</li>
