(now that I can get the x509 jsp up in my test IdP.)</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It turns out that there is a <a href="https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/SHIB2/IdPAuthUserPassLoginPage" class="external-link" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">huge amount</a> of "stuff" (parameterization and the like) behind our taglibs and I am not sure how much it is used. We do explicitly say <a href="https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/IDP4/Configuration#Configuration-InstallationLayout" class="external-link" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">here</a> that</p>

<li>Do nothing in V4.1</li>
<li>Deprecate all this</li>
<li>Deprecate all of this with a warning and let x509 whine</li>
<li>Ditto but bodge the three tags that x509 uses - potentially with a new support class in idp.ui which does the heavy lifting (like all the HTMLEncoding or URLs which the taglib does). This also gives us an extension point to which we can add things as and when people ask.</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">And this doesn't even open the can of worms which is error lookup (in x509 and index) in spring.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">All in all this feels pretty rushed which makes me nervous.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">OTOH I don't see us having another shot of deprecating this stuff before V5 (we cannot deprecate in a patch, can we?)</p> </td>
