Or really, it's not "difficult" but rather computationally very expensive and unwise.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">There's a hierarchy of abstract base classes here. The code that actually parses and unmarshalls the metadata and actually fails if it's invalid (empty or corrupted) is in a superclass. It knows nothing of backup files or even that's HTTP. It doesn't know what the source was. It simply calls a method to fetch a <tt>byte[]</tt> and processes it.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The code that produces that <tt>byte[]</tt> is the FileBacked-- aware code. The only way to "validate" the backing file there and do something if it's bad would be to parse and unmarshall it there. All that work however would be thrown away b/c it can't be used by the superclass (you're returning a <tt>byte[]</tt>). For a file that's tens or hundreds of MBs, that would be very inefficient. We certainly would not do that be default.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">We could theoretically make such an expensive validation optional, but if you're going to change the config to do that, you might as well just set <tt>failFast=false</tt>. In the end you will get exactly the same result, as Scott has outlined. So that sort of negates the whole point of doing it.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I also somewhat philosophically disagree that that is even the right thing to do. failFast means that loading issues during init are fatal, by definition. In my mind that includes initing from the backup file if you have <tt>initializeFromBackupFile=true</tt>.</p> </td>
