<td class="text-paragraph-pattern-container mobile-resize-text " style="padding: 0px; border-collapse: collapse; padding: 0 0 10px 0"> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0; margin-top: 0">After a lot of spec reading, false starts and yak shaving, I think I've actually made some progress on this.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I wrote a test program that just lets me exercise the TLS socket factories directly, so I can hit different TLS server targets easily with different options, etc. For all testing the server target is Linux with httpd + mod_ssl.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If I force it on the client side to TLS 1.2, then session resumption DOES NOT happen and therefore the problem does not manifest on these test server targets:</p>

<li>CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (GU system)</li>
<li>Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.8 (Maipo) (GU system)</li>
<li>CentOS Linux release 8.1.1911 (shibboleth.net)</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Session resumption DOES happen and we see the problem (<tt>X509TrustManager</tt> skipped) on:</p>

<li>CentOS Linux release 8.2.2004 (local VM fully updated via yum; httpd and mod_ssl with pretty much the out-of-the-box defaults)</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I haven't done a deep comparison yet between the 2 categories to see if there is a significant difference in mod_ssl configuration vs if the behavior is platform version based, such as maybe the exact version of openssl, etc.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Using ssllabs, both shibboleth.net and the public non-loadbalanced GU system both show as supporting session resumption via both caching and tickets. But it's not working, so that implies that something about the Java client doesn't do the right thing. This is Oracle JDK 11.0.8 on MacOS.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"><a href="https://issues.shibboleth.net/jira/secure/ViewProfile.jspa?name=henson%40cpp.edu" class="user-hover" rel="henson@cpp.edu" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">Paul B. Henson</a> can you please supply details on exactly what your server TLS target is here - not the IdP but the thing to which it's connecting. Would be helpful to know: OS platform/version; if Apache httpd, then the exact mod_ssl SSL* directives you have configured.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I don't understand the TLS 1.3 exchanges yet, still working on that.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"> </p> </td>
