My current production 3.4 idp's have a crap load of memory, so it's possible the garbage collection never gets around to cleaning them up on those systems. In HttpClientBuilder.java, the default connectionStaleCheck = false, and that does not appear to be overridden by the idp? There also doesn't appear to be any instance of an IdleConnectionMonitorThread. So I think sockets do not close in this case until they are explicitly reset or garbage collected.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I don't think you could wrap the call in something that automatically does a reset? Because the object is still needed after the call until whatever is using it is done with it? And how would the object know to do the reset unless something was explicitly called saying it was no longer needed, or it was garbage collected?</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If you don't like the idea of explicitly calling reset, what about implementing an idle connection monitor thread? That seems pretty simple, the example in the above URL just closes expired connections and connections idle for 30 seconds every one second. I'm guessing that would also resolve my issue.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Hmm, actually, it looks like there already is one of those implemented? In IdleConnectionSweeper.java in the java-support repository. But it doesn't look like the idp uses it. Is there any way to enable that in the XML configuration instantiating an httpclient? Or would that require Java code changes?</p> </td>
