The problem is that practically speaking javax.scripting is being de facto killed because Javascript via Nashorn is the only "real" engine right now, and once that's gone...</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The other options have apparently all been dead for years and never worked all that well according to the Python, Ruby, etc. devs I've spoken to, so this is the last stand.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Rhino works for now, but the bridge code is clearly of questionable origin at this point. Don't even know if it's legally shippable, I didn't check the license.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">One can argue whether they will actually take the step and deprecate the APIs too, and I kind of expect that's coming, but we'll see.</p> </td>
