The former returns without throwing and the latter just returns true (merely due to API difference). So those are unquestionably fine.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The <tt>Strict-/Default-</tt> ones are more complex to compare obviously. Some observations:</p>
<ul>
<li>They largely seem to do the same thing, in that the enforce the newer RFCs which say that if any subject alt names are available, then only those are evaled and not the subject CN.</li>
<li>The new one optionally supports the public suffix stuff, but the default ctor defaults that to null, so it doesn't do public suffix by default, and that's what we'd use.</li>
<li>Both support wildcards in the cert names.</li>
<li>To my eyes, the new <tt>Default-</tt> one looks cleaner, less cluttered and better organized than the old one. That might be b/c it only has to implement 1 public method, as where the old one has to implement 3 or 4 with different signatures.</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Overall I'd still say I favor just switching to the new ones unless/until we find an actual problem.</p> </td>
