InResponseTo has always been ignored because the SP does not maintain request state. There are no explicit plans to change that but blocking Unsolicited responses would be the primary justification for changing that, and nobody has requested that feature, they just keep asking why it does what it does.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">2. I believe that claim is false in general The MessageDecoders check for Destination and it can only be missing if the message is unsigned (e.g. if signed assertions are used and the response is unsigned). This is common sense: it's a waste of time to check the value of something anybody can freely manipulate.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">3. I believe that is also false, the code checks the StatusCode quite early and bails out.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">4. NameID is 100% optional, always have been.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">5. Format and all qualifiers are optional. No Format is equivalent to the stupid "unspecified" value and treated as such. No Qualifiers is entirely expected since only two Formats have defined semantics for them (transient and persistent); Qualifiers should never be used with any other non-custom Formats.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">6. Same answer as 1.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">7. Format for Issuer is optional and defaults to the special "entity" Format, and in fact the SP blocks any others if they appear as invalid by virtue of just never doing metadata lookup in the message decoders.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">8. I believe this is probably true, it tends to enforce what's there but not require it to be. Trusting untrustworthy IdPs that send bad data is something people shouldn't do, but the code isn't as tight as it should be to enforce the profile.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">9. Same as 8.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">10. Same as 8/9, except that it is false that it can be in the past unless you're referring to allowing for clock skew. No SP can enforce timestamps without skew; that would be a bug.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">11. Same as 8/9/10, should be tightened up.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">12. Same as 1/6, can't be done at present, but the SP assumes you will enforce the context you want as an authorization rule, and it supports doing that, and that is inherently required because of Unsolicited responses anyway. It would be an unsafe practice to just rely on request correlation for that kind of thing.</p> </td>
