In particular the <tt><scm></tt> child elements have had behaviour to "adjust" the inherited value for the specific module, by removing something that looked like a module name and adding the new one on. This of course breaks (a) Git in general and (b) specifically Git in the case where all modules are part of the same Git repository. There are Maven issues for both of these aspects, and more.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This has all changed recently. In 3.6.0 there was a first approach to this problem, but it was reworked in 3.6.1.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">As I understand it, in 3.6.1 (which is the version of Maven bundled with Eclipse just now) the behaviour can be overridden for specific elements, in particular the children of <tt><scm></tt>, like this:</p>

</div> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Applying this to the <tt>-parent</tt> POMs within our multi-module projects (MDA, IDP, OSJ) <em>appears</em> to fix the problem.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The bad news is that because of yet another issue (<a href="https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-6639)" class="external-link" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-6639)</a> we can't actually do that yet: the schema hasn't been updated and the Maven 3.6.1 inside Eclipse flags those new attributes as schema violations.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It looks like the only real way to address this <em>today</em> is to literally copy the <tt><scm></tt> element from the <tt>-parent</tt> POM in each of the three affected projects down into the individual module POMs. Interestingly, that appears to be what Tom put in place for the MDA modules that existed in 2016 as part of INFRA-110, so it's not our first time down this path.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This approach should be compatible with all of 3.6.0...3.6.3, so I'm going to implement it. It will last until we add another module to one of the multi-module projects, but perhaps by that time the situation on the Maven side will have progressed such that we can use the new attributes to address the problem instead.</p> </td>
