Actually there is only one metadata provider which listens to this and that is the fail backed HTTP metadata where failfast controls whether the provider fails if the HTTP cannot be located <b>and</b> there is no backing file. I am not sure that I think we should change this,</li>
<li>The IdP property <tt>idp.pool.LDAP.failFastInitialize</tt> (more about this below) defaults to false in the shipped conf files (i.e in every existing deployment)</li>

<li>In addition the LDAP connector has an attribute {[failFastInitialize}} (as well as the new failfast) which is also reflected into a property {[idp.pool.LDAP.failFastInitialize}} and is to do with connection pool initialization (I haven't kicked the wheels there). This doesn't appear to be documented anywhere.</li>

<li>We should make the method names in the DataConnectors match the configuration property.</li>
<li>We should collapse the two LDAP attributes so that the old one is deprecated and the new one sets both.</li>
<li>We should remove {[idp.pool.LDAP.failFastInitialize}} from ldap.properties and our example conf files.</li>
