<ul>
<li><tt>dom4j:dom4j:1.6.1</tt> (a release from 2005, 14 years old and perhaps dating from a period before the XML APIs were incorporated into the Java API) which in turn is pulled in by</li>
<li><tt>org.hibernate:hibernate-entitymanager:jar:4.3.5.Final</tt> (a five-year-old release dependency-managed by <tt>opensaml-parent</tt></li>
<li><tt>opensaml-storage-impl</tt> tests</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">(This chain pulls in an extremely ancient <tt>xml-apis</tt>, but the same problem is seen with the latest one, so just managing that dependency doesn't help.)</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It looks like it is possible to add dependency management to exclude <tt>xml-apis</tt> from <tt>dom4j</tt> and that this fixes the immediate problem. This will need a fair bit of testing, though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some variation come up elsewhere.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It might also be worth looking into whether we want to use a slightly more recent version of <tt>hibernate-entitymanager</tt>; that might also fix the problem by referencing a less ancient <tt>dom4j</tt> or even just using the Java API itself. Perhaps part of the lesson is that our test dependencies need to be reviewed from time to time as well as our runtime ones.</p> </td>
