The handler doesn't do queries, not by itself. It runs whatever resolver plugins you have enabled using the parameters as input to set up the "context" for running them.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If you enable the Query plugin, then what it does is run queries, like you're assuming it does. But if you, e.g. just enabled the SimpleAggregation plugin, it would run that plugin, or if you enabled only one of the transforming resolver plugins, it would run those.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It doesn't have the ability to run anything by itself, it can only tell the other plugins to run.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The entityID there is particularly misleading. It's not inherently "the entityID to query again", but rather it's the "issuer" value fed into the attribute resolution logic, and it happens to be the case that the Query plugin will use that to query against if it's enabled.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This is why the handler is called AttributeResolverHandler and not AttributeQueryHandler.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">So if you don't have Query enabled, it will not query.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I understand why that might occasionally be a problem, but in practice it's not feasible to duplicate all that code, and the capabilities of the handler are much more flexible with this approach since it can do more than just queries and it doesn't have to know what's actually possible to do them, it just runs other plugins.</p> </td>
