</blockquote> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"> <br> Correction: Although it is true to say that JEP 335 has implications for Shibboleth deployers, saying that Shibboleth "ships with Nashorn in the box" is <em>not</em> accurate. The JavaScript/ECMAScript engine is bundled as part of the Java runtime (Rhino in Java 6/7, Nashorn in Java 8 onwards). For licensing reasons, we don't (actually, can't) ship a Java runtime, so it's up to deployers to determine which runtime (and which ECMAScript engine) they use. Beyond saying what we support, we have no control over which runtime a deployer uses; that's one of the reasons we're tracking this issue.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">JEP 335, which terminally deprecates Nashorn, is now actually targeted for Java 11. This means that means that Nashorn <em>will be present</em> in Java 11, the next LTS version of Java after Java 8. So deployers who stick with LTS versions of Java won't be affected by this until Java 17 (September 2021), assuming that Java's LTS narrative doesn't change again until then. So I think it's fair to say that this is a long-term issue except to the extent that we want to provide some level of support to people who deploy on non-LTS versions of Java.</p> </td>
