Because of the layering involved, this code has to commit the backup file before it knows whether the XML is usable, and this leads to cases where a bad remote file that's still parseable will overwrite usable XML. That's not new behavior, it was true before; this fix should restore the level of robustness that existed, but it doesn't improve it.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The metadata code overrides all this behavior to achieve higher degrees of reliability, but the vanilla classes don't.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Anyway, this should address the regression, I think. I don't want to rush out a patch in case anything else pops up but I won't wait too long.</p> </td>
