This would makes the Requested Attributes available for the <tt>AttributeInMetadata</tt> Attribute Matcher (which compares the IdPAttribute's SAML encoding parameters against the SAML RequestedAttribute)</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">But then I started digging further and of course when the ACS is unmarshalled we unmap the OpenSAML <tt>RequestedAttributes</tt> into <tt>IdPRequestedAttributes</tt> and bung them into the xml Object's <tt>getObjectMetadata</tt> (multi)-Map.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This then gets plugged into the <tt>MappedAttributeInMetadata</tt> Attribute Matcher (which is like the <tt>AttributeInMetadata</tt> one but which worked on the mapped data. Not sure if I can remember the reasons why we have both, but ISTR it was a late breaking need. Compatibility? Deprecate?</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The IdP Mapped Attributes are also available to <tt>IsAttributeRequiredPredicate</tt> which is part of the consent stuff.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">And so I then had a poke at the <tt>getObjectMetadata</tt> method.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It is pretty much used like a Map everywhere except during <tt>MetadataPKIXValidationInformationResolver</tt> where the locks that the Map also implements are used. This is because in this case the PKIX information is build on an as needed basis and then inserted, on the fly; so in this case only the rw lock is taken before insertion. In all other cases the insertion happens before the metadata is widely available. But I'm still worried about the use of get without the lock in all the cases that are not in <tt>MetadataPKIXValidationInformationResolver</tt></p>
<ul>
<li>If there is a structural issue then every lookup needs the locking.</li>
<li>If there are no structural issues then <tt>MetadataPKIXValidationInformationResolver</tt> doesn't need the read lock for the lookup (the value is there or it isn't), so long as the "test & update" is done under the write lock all will be OK. Indeed it could be said that the locking is actually irrelevant then - in the small window when two threads create the PKIX info then the second insert will win and all we have lost is CPU cycles.</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Anyway cycling back to the top, the only way I can see to pull off the trick is to build our own implementation of AssertionConsumerRequest which proxies the one that we get from the metadata and "slips in" both the <tt>RequestedAttributes</tt> and the <tt>IdPRequestedAttributes</tt> as appropriate. This feels far from architecturally clean and would have the down side that unless carefully managed we'd lose the "late binding" PKIX behavior (the PKIX info would be added to our ACS, not the real one).</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I should say that I'm rejecting out of hand, for what I hope are obvious reasons, "just" adding the <tt>RequestedAttributes</tt> / <tt>IdPRequestedAttributes</tt> to the ACS for the duration of the request.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Anybodt got any observations?</p> </td>
