Scribbled notes for a plan (in nor particular order)</p>
<ul>
<li>Parameterize config.bat so that with no parameters it is "Scott's settings" and with a parameter it's mine. The idea long term is that all configuration should go there, or perhaps into two batch files one for paths (not checked in) and one for versions (checked in)</li>
<li>Aim to make Versions.props non changing (just as Include.props is by)
<ul>
<li>Moving all the settings therein to <b>differently named</b> (path or version) environmental variables, (hence <tt>$(BuildRoot)</tt> is populated from <tt>%ROOT_DIR%</tt>.</li>
<li>Defaulting the settings to their "now value". So for instance <tt>CurlVersion</tt> (in <tt>Versions.props</tt>) will be set from <tt>%LIBCURL_DIR%%</tt> ( <tt>config.bat</tt>) , but if that is not set it defaults to 7.57.0. Long term we'll strip out these silly defaults</li>
</ul> </li>
<li>Make <tt>buildpath.props</tt> redundant by
<ul>
<li>Moving the settings to Versions.props and setting them from (path) environmental variables.</li>
<li>Sometime thereafter killing off the use of <tt>buildpath.props</tt></li>
</ul> </li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I think that this way things keep on working.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Things are liable to get complicated as we meet some impedance mismatches. For example (and I don't know if this is true) the lib and dll names for Santuario are probably hard-wired in the vcxproj for same, but the name is parameterized for the build of Shibboleth. We'll make plans as and when we meet them, but I would like to aim for a parameterization everywhere or no where (including dependencies).</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">We may get similar problems when I start addressing paths (which are really in Include.props).</p> </td>
