This is very brittle and is sensitive to non-significant changes in textual representation, in particular to changes in XML serialization by differing XML components in different JDK versions.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">In the past, when these broke for the "new" JDK, we'd just update the tests' control values to work with the new JDK. Now, we need the tests to work simultaneously for at least Java 7, 8, and 9, so we need to bite the bullet and find a better way to code these tests.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">Three cases:</p>
<ol>
<li>SOAP encoders: Easy to fix. Just parse the POST body for the SOAP envelope and use standard XML comparison via XMLUnit</li>
<li>Redirect encoders: Seems easy to fix. Just parse out the individual query params and test each. In particular, the <tt>SAMLRequest</tt> or <tt>SAMLResponse</tt> value will need to be un-DEFLATEd and then parsed and tested via XMLUnit</li>
<li>POST encoders: The output here is an HTML form, so this is a little harder. Ideally need to parse the HTML and then test the individual bits.</li>
</ol> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">Wrt HTML parsers for Java, jsoup (<a href="https://jsoup.org/)" class="external-link" rel="nofollow" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">https://jsoup.org/)</a> looks pretty good, but needs to be evaluated.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">HTMLUnit is another obvious candidate. Here is an example of parsing HTML from a string (not a network callout):</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0"><a href="https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6136435/how-to-create-htmlunit-htmlpage-object-from-string" class="external-link" rel="nofollow" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6136435/how-to-create-htmlunit-htmlpage-object-from-string</a></p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">A less ideal fallback could be to just parse the HTML as XML. Our current encoders produce output that is well-formed XML. But this might not always be the case in the future. Note: Since encoder does emit the HTML 5 DOCTYPE, have to use a special <tt>ParserPool</tt> which specifically allows the DOCTYPE via overriding a parse feature.</p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0"> </p> <p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0"> </p> </td>
