<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If you want to open a ticket with them, the thing that's throwing is the <tt>getSignedInfo().item(0)</tt> call. Their <tt>Reference</tt> constructor is not checking for the case of zero child elements. That <tt>item(int)</tt> method is declared to throw a checked <tt>XMLSecurityException</tt>, so that's probably what they should be doing.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">However: You do know that is completely malformed and invalid <tt>ds:Signature</tt>, right? Per the schema, the <tt>ds:Reference</tt> is required to have exactly 1 each of <tt>ds:DigestMethod</tt> and <tt>ds:DigestValue</tt>. That's probably why Santuario isn't even bothering to check this case. It's completely fatal, which is what unchecked exceptions are for, and they may justifiably choose not to fix on that basis. But you can ask them.</p>
