<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Well, a facile answer would be "make the sublists fully manipulatable" since that's certainly what a programmer would prefer, but I understand the challenge.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Given that, we have to either live with it or I guess implement type-safe guarding around the collection by wrapping the list that gets returned. The containing type obviously knows its own legal children, whereas the children don't know all the containers they could appear in.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I guess I'm just more of a consistency advocate, and if the marker trick doesn't work generally, I tend to avoid it in specific cases where it does.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">But this is all mostly academic, I'm not arguing for removing the Evidence thing, but I think we'd agree that's not really what we should do for EntityAttributes. I didn't implement anything type-safe there for now because it's on the Impl class only and not exposed to the world.</p>
