<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I didn't realize it had been always broken, I see the point. Yes, seems like it makes sense just to pull it.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">As far as the basic-auth thing, I think it would depend on whether we intend to continue to support the two settings on the XML side. If we do, then probably just biting the bullet and bypassing the deprecated API now would save time later while we're mucking around with it.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I think I was assuming we didn't want to keep them around and were going to punt all of that configuration to the parameters reference, in which case it seemed simpler to just leave it for now modulo warnings and pull it altogether later.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">My sense is that if basic-auth were important we'd keep the settings, but in fact it's not in this use case (has that ever been used? I doubt it) so rather than waste time recoding it, we just add the warnings. I think it likely we'll have a 3.4 before we do a 4.0, even if they're close together.</p>
