<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Hmmm... No, we didn't discuss yet. I'm of 2 minds about it. One the one hand, I see the basic point about "impl" in the name.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">On the other hand: For these component-based metrics, I think it's fuzzier than for the non-component-based ones, like the authn ones, where you can naturally make up metrics names. Here, we are indeed actually tracking metrics specifically for what is ultimately an impl class. It's difficult to imagine somehow hiding that fact. Once we get into Spring bean-only wiring (no legacy schema), we can abstract with parent beans, etc, but the classes themselves are still actually impl.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">As a similar case: we don't for example attempt to hide the "impl" in the logging categories. Although I realize that's a little different. People aren't usually going to "address" or pull things based on logging categories. Although I guess they could if they were parsing their log files, looking for specific things. And of course they actually can configure logging categories, which could necessarily involve "impl". Logging config is sort of API-ish, isn't it?</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Speaking of logging: If the component metrics names aren't the same as the class logging categories, won't that result in a mis-match vis-a-vis the Metrics filtering stuff that we doing, which is based on logging config categories?</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If we wanted to change, I think we'd have to (somehow) come up with some artificial metrics base names, and then add calls in the ctors of all of the concrete resolvers to set that (there is a public setter). (I think that's just 2 concrete classes here for the dynamic resolvers). The technical aspects are easy; the main issue is that it's not clear what kind of naming scheme we should use. We need a different name for each concrete class (and still also include the component ID in there).</p>
