<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">There is no existing reference for the regular expression syntax supported by Xerces, and the Java one would definitely not be relevant. I would say there's no chance that capturing group stuff would be supported.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Most likely there's an unguarded code path throwing a Xerces exception, which in their infinite wisdom they didn't type as a std::exception so they're very hard to catch and they escape frequently. There's an option in the config to "catch all" that is not recommended but it would catch these cases as another workaround.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I'll reproduce at some point and find the unguarded section of code.</p>
