<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I was just reviewing the spec (sstc-saml1x-metadata-os.pdf) that defines the <tt>samlmd:SourceID</tt> extension. Is that the only place this is described or profiled?</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">If so: Just noting that that is technically only defined for the SAML 1.x Browser/Artifact Profile and only for <tt>IDPSSODescriptor</tt>.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Given SAML 2, it would obviously seem reasonable and logical to support also for SAML 2 artifact binding, and also for <tt>SPSSODescriptor</tt>. That would mean we don't need to care about the protocol and role of the peer. Is that what you were intending, since you said "given an SP's metadata"? Or is a strict read of the spec for only SAML 1 IdPs the way to go?</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I think the stricter interpretation is probably more problematic to implement, but haven't looked at all the details yet.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Also, if we're going with a more liberal interpretation, could a given role have more than one <tt>samlmd:SourceID</tt>? Don't know of a use case, but assuming multiple seems the safer way to go.</p>
