<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Ugh.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Its all to do with which BeanDefinitionReader one uses. The tests use <tt>XmlBeanDefinitionReader</tt> but the server code (correctly) uses <tt>SchemaTypeAwareXMLBeanDefinitionReader</tt>. These two classes have no common ancestor, despite their names.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">The result is that tests which use the wrong DefintionReader require parsers declared in the wrong namespace handler.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">There is an element of overlap in all this since the <tt>SchemaTypeAwareXMLBeanDefinitionReader</tt> is doing some of the work of handling the type (picking the namespace handler) but the picking of the parser is done in the Spring code.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I think this is probably wrong but we are not going to change it in V3 and maybe by V4 we can get rid of this legacy formats.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">For now the solution is to </p>
<ul>
<li>
remove the use of <tt>XmlBeanDefinitionReader</tt> from all the tests
</li>
<li>
fix whatever breaks
</li>
<li>
remove the handlers from the wrong names spaces
</li>
<li>
fix the TYPE vs ELEMENT name
</li>
<li>
across all three spring-impl modules
</li>
</ul>
