<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">We have a setup in which we are hosting both the SP and the IDP sides, i.e. we only ever speak to our own IDP, and are using the SAML2 protocol mostly for abstracting away different authentication mechanism concerns from the individual applications/SPs.</p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">For various technical and policy reasons, we have a requirement that the IDP has to be hosted on the same domain name as the SP under a URL subpath (e.g. /idp). Requests on /idp get split off on a different internal network path towards the IDP; the rest continues as-is to the SP. The IDP is accordingly set up to expect the Destination attribute in AuthnRequests to contain SP URLs plus the "/idp" part.</p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">For the most part everything works, but we run into problems when the SP is accessible from multiple different external domain names. In this situation, the IDP endpoint URL has to change along with the domain name used by the client, so we would need to be able to specify relative URLs in the IDP metadata XML.</p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">This is currently not possible – the relative URLs get passed as-is to SAML2POSTEncoder and are rejected by the call to HTTPResponse::sanitizeURL</p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">I've also considered going the route of creating multiple IDP definitions and switching between them using requiresSessionWith, but I don't think that can work because it's the same IDP with the same entityID, just accessed through different URLs.</p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;; margin: 10px 0 0 0">For these kinds of use cases, would you be willing to consider accepting relative URLs in the IDP metadata XML files?</p>
