<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">It seems that in terms of indexing we need to scope the indexed location URL by the containing <tt>RoleDescriptor</tt> type, <tt>Endpoint</tt> type and whether it's a <tt>getLocation()</tt> or <tt>getResponseLocation()</tt>. Does this sound right? Anything else? Should protocol also be in there?</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">On the index impl there will be a way to narrow down what gets indexed. Currently I have just a <tt>Map<QName, Set<QName>></tt>, which is endpoint types keyed by role. Perhaps should move to a <tt>Predicate</tt>, with that approach as the default impl.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">For purposes of indexing and later lookup, should we ignore query params and fragment? If we don't ignore, means we generate indexed values for all the variants. Also issues with query param ordering, need to canonicalize, etc. Not sure this is even supported for metadata, but I can't find the text that says it isn't...</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">On lookup, to support the partial, path segment match discussed in <a href="https://issues.shibboleth.net/jira/browse/IDP-701" title="Provide SAML metadata facility for CAS" class="issue-link" data-issue-key="IDP-701" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">IDP-701</a>, the approach here is to generate multiple <tt>MetadataIndexKeys</tt> from the <tt>CriteriaSet</tt>, based on path segment trimming. One of those will then match the value indexed from metadata iff Marvin's <tt>S.startsWith(V)</tt> test holds.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Outstanding question is what input <tt>Criterion}}s to use are lookup time. I could just do a monolithic one just for this case accepting role and endpoint QNames, location and such. We could instead try to reuse multiple existing impls like the {{RoleDescriptorCriterion</tt><br /> + <tt>EndpointCriterion</tt>, but means artificially constructing whole XMLObject instances just to pass data. Seems wasteful.</p>
