<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I think the problem here is that Tomcat has a feature that I'm pretty sure Jetty doesn't, replacement of $</p> {var}
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"> variables in web.xml. It's replacing idp.home <b>before</b> Spring gets involved, and the contextConfigLocation parameter is specifically NOT allowed to have paths with spaces, because it splits the list of files on whitespace.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">In other words, say you really wanted to put C:\Program Files\foo.xml into the contextConfigLocation. You can't. Period.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I believe Jetty is NOT resolving $</p> {idp.home}
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"> for us, which is why we have extra code in there to do the property load and <b>then</b> resolve the paths. That means Spring is parsing the init-param with no spaces in the paths and then we're doing the replacement, so magic ensues.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Tomcat's jumping in front of that and then we run into the incompatibility.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Honestly, I don't know that this is fixable unless Tomcat has some switch to turn off this replacement feaure. And Jetty could break this at any time if they decided to implement this feature.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Ultimately this is a Spring bug, essentially. They need to handle quoted paths or something to accomodate spaces, but without their support, we're just working around it.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">Probably the fix is to do what we've been talking around, do the bootstrapping from a classpath-based file and load the rest from there.</p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I'll keep looking, but I don't think Tomcat has any way to disable this behavior for the time being.</p>
