I'm looking at the BaseService/etc. classes and the Spring parsers, and it seems to me this is all just broken (I know, big surprise).</p>
<p>In particular, the destroy() method of BaseReloadableService is calling timer.cancel() on a Timer that's injected, which means it would cancel all the tasks attached to that shared Timer. The reason that's not actually happening is that I'm pretty sure destroy() doesn't even get called. The Spring parser establishes an init method on the bean definition, but not a destroy method. So I don't think destroy ever gets called on these services.</p>
<p>The problem is that with an internal Timer, we probably need a destroy to happen for cleanup. And I'm not about to just go adding in that Spring change at this stage of the development, that's a huge lifecycle change.</p>
<p>I think we're just stuck here, and the best thing we could probably do is try to fix the timeouts since it looks like they aren't set to anything. That's much less risky than screwing with the Service classes in such a deep way. The Timer fix is easy, but fixing the whole Service design is just way too far for me.</p></div>
