A status update : I have a crude test flow which reads and writes to localStorage.

The local-storage-read and -write subflows consist of a view and an action. The -read view POSTs a request parameter whose value is read from localStorage. The subsequent -read action loads the LocalStorageService context map from the request parameter. The -write action saves the LocalStorageService context map to a session attribute. The subsequent -write view writes the session attribute value to localStorage. The actions might not be necessary and could possibly be replace by SpEL expressions, but I assume we'll need more logic or error handling there.

A difference between the LocalStorageService and the existing cookie-based storage service is that the context map needs to be stored as a session attribute, rather than a request attribute (which is then loaded from a cookie).

The -read flow uses a request parameter to pass data, but maybe we want a session attribute there too. I don't quite understand the multi-tab or embedded link use cases all the way in terms of synchronization of the context map.

The test flow :

executes the -read subflow

executes an action which writes to the storage service

executes the -write sublow

presents a view which displays localStorage and the LocalStorageService context map and tests for equality

I haven't tackled testing for localStorage support in the browser, nor thought too much about how to prefer localStorage but fallback to cookies in a single client-side storage impl, but it seems quite doable.

I imagine we'll talk tomorrow on the dev call.

I haven't committed anything because I was avoiding the overhead of creating a feature branch, but I guess that's not a big deal. I was hoping I could put the flows and Java classes in "test", meaning for example idp-conf/src/test/resources/flows, but that seems to confuse SWF when running with idp-home as "classpath:" in Eclipse, I guess the flow registry can't handle that.
