<p>The DOM code uses string pools to optimize the storage of the strings in the DOM, and what's happening is that the string pool lookup for "del" is returning the pooled string "del:Delegate", and so the DOM node for the Delegate element has a prefix property of "del:Delegate". That eventually trips up my code when I try and build a DOM based on the information that was originally passed out to me.</p>

<p>I don't really see any obvious fix here. Reading their code, I don't think they're doing anything wrong, it's not like it's not checking for equality before it reuses a pooled string. Somewhere the compiler managed to break their code, I think.</p>

<p>I'm going to play some more games, rebuild Xerces without optimization, try different RH versions, etc. Mostly to prove my theory.</p></div>
