I need to prove this out in the code but my experimentation is hopeful. I'll mention it here so that others know where I'm heading and don't duplicate the effort.</p>
<p>Currently the springResource are handled entirely inside the parser which as Scott says</p>

<p>But if we delegated the parsing to a suitable factory bean and made that bean ApplicationContextAware (es, this works I just tested it) then we have the parent context to pass to SpringSupport.creatContext.</p>
<p>Further if we make the parameter to setSpringResource a Resource then the behaviour of the parameter in the config file would be exactly the same as all our other strings.<br/>
This then allows us to add a springResourceRef attribute to the connectors to allow people to configure complex resources here (SVN, HTTP).<br/>
Finally we would need to investigate the lifecycle of the new child context we created, If spring tears it down automatically there would be no work to do, but otherwise we would "just" have to explicitly tear it down in the destroyInstance method.</p>
<p>I think that we can probably manage this inside the AbstractDataConnectorParser rather than individually for the three connectors, although they would need work.</p>
<p>I'll work on this today and see what I can report at the meeting.</p></div>
