<p>If the cost is deemed too high, and since the culprit here is Velocity: Since I think all the logs from Velocity get to SLF4J through our LogChute impl (net.shibboleth.utilities.java.support.velocity.SLF4JLogChute), one could theoretically add some functionality to that to skip logs based on some criteria.  Only complication is that since you just specify the class via the Velocity prop 'runtime.log.logsystem.class', there would have to be some other way to inject or specify parameters, such as pattens for skipping, etc. Maybe a system property that specified a specific Predicate impl to use. That or just hardcode the logic in a dedicated LogChute impl.  Just an idea.      </p></div>
