That's not covered by the algorithm support extension DigestMethod, that's only for signing. What you are seeing is the OpenSAML default for that. Unlike with signing, many impls don't support anything other than SHA-1 there, so we have to leave that as the default.</p>
<p>(Btw, the spec allows for the RSA-OAEP parameter preference to be expressed as child elements of the EncryptionMethod in the KeyDescriptor, and our SAMLMetadataEncryptionParametersResolver does support pulling the DigestMethod from there, along with the other OAEP params - MGF and OAEPparams). </p>
<p>On the spec interpretatoon re preference ordering: I think it actually is reasonably clear that it's effectively in decreasing preference order. It's true that in sections 2.3 and 2.4 that cover the "expression in metadata", it says:</p>
