2) Wrap the 'name' processing code in parse() with a conditional on that boolean</p>
<p>Seems pretty uncontentious to me to provide that feature. This really feels like a bug to me. Hopefully the Spring people would agree.</p>
<p>With the current code: isn't there another problem, in that a 'name' attribute will unconditionally overwrite any existing alias with that name? So in this case, with your current provisional fix which overrides registerBeanDefinition(), you'd at the end be left with no alias at all for that name? Suboptimal if you want to preserve support for aliases.</p>
<p>If we can't get an RFE from Spring, maybe the override of registerBeanDefinition() should just not call super - instead inline what BeanDefinitionReaderUtils.registerBeanDefinition() does, but remove the alias stuff. Copy/paste is bad - they might change their impl - but there's not a not of code here. It would be just 2 lines remaining, so maybe worth the risk?:</p>
