        <div class="comment-block" style="background-color:#edf5ff;border:1px solid #dddddd;color:#000000;padding:12px;"><p>The profiler seems to be telling me that all the time is being spent in various HashTable methods during the destroyBean() steps. The HashMap.hash() method in particular seems to be implicated, by way of the maps of bean names being tracked as dependencies in all the beans. It's not hashing our objects, just the names of the beans.</p>

<p>I think about all we could really do if we were willing would be to actually change the scope of the beans to "prototype" when we construct them in the parser. That, I think, tells Spring not to actually take ownership of them and destroy them. That would be essentially orphaning them, one assumes to the GC, and would only work if we didn't actually need destroy() to be called.</p>

<p>That may well just blow up, but just for fun I'll see what it does.</p></div>
