<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>An ant V2->V3 install will not generate pkcs12 files, rather it deletes credentials.xml and relies on the keys configured in the legacy relying-party.xml.</p>
<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>A subsequent V3->V3 upgrade will spot that the files are missing and would create them, having prompted for the password. The files will still not be being used but the possibilty for confusion is massive.</p>
<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>Actually there is a real possibility that on windows the upgrade would then fail because we would be asking for information in a "headless install" mode which fails rather than prompts.</p>
<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>We need a way to detect a V3->V3 upgrade which is based on an 'unimproved' V2 upgrade and to not do these extra stages. The options appear to be to read the idp.properties file for the "use legacy relying-party.xml" property or to look for credentials.xml not being there. There may be other mechanisms. My favored one is the "credentials.xml being there" because it is very easy to do in any and does not pollute the an namespace with idp properties.</p>
<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>Of course just looking for credentials.xml isn't enough. If someone does 'improve' their v2 config, they will bring forward the V2 key/cert pair into credentials.xml, but the credentials files will still not be called what we want them to be called - so modulo any further smartness we will prompt for the passwords and try to create the files..</p>
<p style='margin-top:0;margin-bottom:10px;'>Maybe we need to predicate the key generation not on whether the key/cert files are there, but rather on whether relying-party.xml is there. </p>
