<p>Not sure if it fits all the use cases here, haven't thought it all the way through.  But you essentially get conditional GET's for free, most of the repetitive requests would be served from cache, and it would make the code a lot simpler.</p>

<p>Not sure if HEAD's are cached, maybe that part would need to change, just make everything a GET, but it's assumed that it's still efficient because the client is handling the caching.</p></div>
