<p>As far as the duplicates go, I think it's better not to think of this as a new MetadataProvider, but as a mechanism that gets applied during validation of the configuration from outside. We could add something that optionally interrogates the metadata on a periodic basis and pulls the list of entityIDs (when it's possible to get them) to detect conflicts.</p>

<p>I believe we have that capability now because we can ask for an iterator, right?</p></div>
