<p>The back button also can cause a GET when people refuse to repost the submission, depending on the browser.</p>
<p>In cases where a GET is issued, either the metadata is wrong, which is easily correctable (but that is not your issue here), or the request would never work no matter what the IdP did, so there is nothing for it to do.</p>
<p>In most cases it's a user issuing a GET that won't work. There is nowehere to send the user to that will work. It's an error and it has to be reported as such. It's not a SAML request issued with the wrong binding, even if we were willing to change the entire design to compensate for that. Since it's not actually a SAML request, there is no place to reroute it that would compensate for the mistake.</p>
<p>As a basic matter, the advice is not to use POST, as it's unnecessary in most cases. But even using Redirect, you will have users hitting this problem, just in a different way, and the outcome will be the same.</p>
<p>It is a significant problem with V2 that this doesn't get trapped by default and handled with a specific error message, but that's already going to be fixed in the next version, and it's not a bug, more of a feature deficiency in error handling.</p></div>
