One point that seemed to have general but not universal agreement was that we wanted rules to be strict yet overrideable in the source for specific cases. The complexity metric was one example given: this is a good rule in general, but there are cases where slavishly decomposing a complex method to meet the threshold (however chosen) actually makes things harder to read.</p>
