<p>The second issue, though, is that what baseline you pick impacts the effective result of computing durations that are in terms of large numbers of hours, or anything in days/months/years, if it crosses a month boundary.</p>
<p>The best we can do is to focus on the important cases, which will tend to be in days or perhaps a month or two. We will pick a baseline, and then we simply have to accept that the actual value of something like "P1M" may not match what somebody might see today depending on when they happen to have run it.</p>
<p>My suggested baseline is 1696-09-01T00:00:00Z, which is one of the normalization baselines used in XML Schema. This avoids DST, and results in:</p>
<p>P1M = 30 days<br/>
P2M = 61 days<br/>
P3M = 92 days<br/>
P1Y - 365 days</p>
