I wasn’t certain if the strict socket factory mode was 100% Java with none of our thread-local stuff involved or not.

I would have to say that if Java’s got a bug, and we already generally steer anything away from using the default trust store for pretty basic reasons, it might be necessary to deprecate the “no TrustEngine installed” case and flag it in the Spring parser.

I guess that depends on where we’re at with solving the design problems around HttpClient 5, which I didn’t think was 100% done yet.
