Been kicking this around in my mind. My suggestion is to leverage the plugin infrastructure and add a “plugin” called net.shibboleth.idp to the plugin.properties.

Then we can have special code (Sharing a lot of subclasses plugin code, but not part of the plugin command)

* In the metrics to display the current state of the installed IdP (Current/OutOfDate/Secadv…)
* In the metrics display if this IdP can be updated.
I am assuming that having this on a metrics endpoint is not a secuirty breach and that a deployer has to chose to make the metrics available
* Have a new command to look for and download (and sig check) the latest tgz file. Not sure about the zip file, and certainly not the msi
