I moved the class out of the IdP into shib-shared, and when I did, I dropped out an implicit prefix for the metrics. I failed to follow up by adjusting the full metric name in the admin-system.xml to account for that. Just add net.shibboleth.idp to the front of all metricName properties in the gauge sets.
