The progress logging added through https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/MDA-282 isn’t going to be enough for every use case. We should investigate instrumentation frameworks such as Metrics (used by the IdP) and Micrometer (used by Spring Framework) to see whether there is value in providing explicit hooks for something of that kind.
