It would help downstream projects, as well as clarify the MDA codebase itself, if the reusable testing APIs were moved into a new module, and the test code within the main modules became just the tests. As a model, we’ve recently done this with both the IdP and OpenSAML.

This would pretty much remove the need for “-test” JARs, and for the Javadoc for those JARs (we’d still want Javadoc for the new module, of course).

The test APIs also need to be in new subpackages, to avoid split packages across modules. The IdP and OpenSAML have used -testing in the module and artifact names, and.testing in the sub-package names. This seems like a reasonable convention.
