Metrics ( https://metrics.dropwizard.io/ ) “provides a powerful toolkit of ways to measure the behavior of critical components in your production environment”.

Conceptually it includes the concepts of registries and meters that Micrometer uses but there’s more of an emphasis on reporting the metrics (e.g., they supply a servlet for reporting over HTTP) where Micrometer’s focus is on exposing everything to external observability systems.

Metrics and Micrometer both support JMX as a way of exposing metrics.
